Members of the Texas County Commission handled several matters during meetings Aug. 21 and 22.
Members:
- Reviewed and approved the county tax rate levy of $0.0999 per $100 of assessed valuation for the 2025 tax year.
- Signed a letter of support for a Delta Regional Authority grant. The grant will help to create a strategic plan for the Ozarks Small Business Incubator, to meet the needs of entrepreneurs across a seven county region.
- Review a letter from the United State Postal Service informing the commission that they are considering the relocation of the Plato post office to a new location within two miles of the current location.
- Reviewed correspondence from the state on training for newly elected coroners.
- Approved a quit claim deed for Texas County Memorial Hospital concerning a lot in Licking that was inadvertently titled in the name of the county.
- Reviewed and acknowledged the resignation of Alejandro Flores as full-time deputy sheriff effective Aug. 14.
- Reviewed and acknowledged Melody Nisse’s “at will status” as a full-time jailer is “no longer needed” effective Aug. 21.
- Presiding Commissioner Scott Long attended a SCOCOG meeting.
In other business, commissioners heard from:
- Sheriff Scott Lindsey on purchasing a 2018 Dodge Ram from the Missouri State Surplus Sale and a draft contract for the sheriff’s training academy.
- The maintenance department which requested uniforms.
- A Texas County citizen inquiring about fire district boundaries.
- Mike Knapp, Burdine Township president, concerning issues with their UEI number for FEMA.
- Rhonda Kirkwood, City of Licking administrator, on various topics.
- A citizen with concerns pertaining to Bucyrus Drive.
- Joe Dixon, Mary Ellen Higashi and David Scantlin concerning FEMA.
- Mike Elliott, Town and Country Insurance, regarding liability insurance options for the county.
