A sign highlights the address of a residence on a township road. An effort is underway to raise the visibility of addresses for first responders.

A member of the Licking Rural Fire Department is working on a project to raise the visibility of addresses across the county by producing reflective address signs.

Ernie Brilhart said first responders often have problems finding a location because of the lack of an address number at residences and businesses. When time is precious, the number is crucial for emergency responders, he said.

The 911 reflective address signs are highly visible during the day or night. Reflective material is on both sides, and they are fade resistant.

The cost is $20 for the sign or $25 with a post that includes mounting hardware. Persons should also indicate a numeric mounting preference – whether horizontal or vertical.

Persons can submit their name, address and phone number, along with the payment, to Licking Rural Fire Department, Ernie Brilhart, 13723 Highway AT, Licking, Mo. 65542. He said he’s willing to meet with buyers at Walmart to make a delivery.
