After getting off to a bit of a slow start, the Houston High School baseball team cranked up the heat and beat Summersville 7-1 Tuesday at Tiger Field.
The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when senior Aiden Kelly led off with a single, stole second and third and then scored on a single to center field by senior Wyatt Hughes.
Houston then added a run in the second frame when senior Gage Yardley led off with a triple to left field and came home on a grounder by senior Keaton Goetz.

The visiting Wildcats cut the deficit in half with 1 run on 1 hit in the top of the third inning, but they wouldn’t score again.
The Tigers added to their advantage in the fourth inning with a 2-run single by senior Jake Allen, and tacked on 3 more runs in the fifth frame on an RBI single by senior Stone Jackson and a 2-run single by Goetz.
Houston totaled 9 hits in the contest, with 7 different players getting at least 1. Hughes went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored, while Yardley went 2-for-3 with a run.
Kelly started on the mound for the Tigers and worked 4 full innings, allowing 2 hits while striking out 7 and walking 3. Jackson pitched the final 3 innings, not allowing a hit while fanning 5 and walking 1.
Winners of three straight games and six of their last seven, the Tigers (10-6, 3-3 SCA) are scheduled to play at Licking on Thursday and at Hartville on Monday before wrapping up the South Central Association conference portion of the season Tuesday (April 30) at Thayer.
