Robert “Bob” Loren Dampier, age 89, son of Roy William Dampier and Della Helen (Davison) Dampier was born Oct. 18, 1934, He passed away Jan. 28, 2024, at his home in Houston, Mo., surrounded by his family.
Bob is preceded in death by his wife, Thena, parents; brother Denny Dampier; and son Loren “Dusty” Guenther.
He is survived by his sons Sid Crowley, Bill Crowley (Laura), Kevin Crowley (Laura) all of Houston, daughters Michelle Dampier of Houston, Mona Crowley of Springfield, Mo., Jeana Lane (Jody) of Buffalo, Mo. 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Bob grew up around Bennett Spring, Mo. He attended school at Cudd and Windyville. He joined the Air Force in 1954 and served until 1957. He was stationed in San Antonio, Texas, Glendale, Ariz. and Soesterberg, Netherlands.
On Dec. 19, 1966, Bob married Thena Ilena (Peck) Crowley. The family moved to Independence, Mo., where Bob worked for National Life Insurance Company.
In 1968, Bob and his family moved to a farm near Sargent, Mo. On April 6, 1969, their daughter, Michelle, was born.
In 1971, Bob sold the farm and moved to Houston, Mo. In 1971, he opened a pool hall in Raymondville, Mo. The business quickly became a hangout for the area’s best pool players. It also became a popular trading center for cars and trucks and about anything else.
In 1984 they bought the Houston Discount Center, where they sold fabric, variety items and furniture. In 1987, they bought a furniture store which ran until 1993, when his son, Bill, bought it.
In 1998, Bob and Thena retired and moved to Bennett Springs Mo. Where Bob enjoyed gardening, dances at the VFW, family get-togethers, and going to yard sales.
In 2017, Bob and Thena moved back to Houston to be closer to their children.
Bob liked hanging out with family and friends. Always had a good story to tell, for which he was well known.
Bob dedicated his life to the Lord when he was 13, and was baptized in the Niangua River.
He loved to watch the Kansas City Chiefs and St. Louis Cardinals.
Visitation for Bob was 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, 2024.
Funeral Service was at 2 p.m. Friday at Shadel’s Colonial Chapel.
Burial was at Plad Cemetery with Military Rites provided by United States Air Force.
Memorials have been suggested to Texas County Food Pantry.
