As of Thursday morning, the U.S. Forest Service said two fires in the region — Beason Hollow Fire and Barn Log Fire — are contained and are being monitored by firefighters on the ground.

The Beason fire is in Shannon County and southwest of Salem. It covered 650 acres. The Barn Log fire is about 10 miles south of Winona and covered 400 acres.

Some smoke from the interior of the fires’ footprint may be visible today, but conditions are favorable to maintain containment and reinforce the lines around the fires, it said.

As weather has shifted, some firefighters will be moved from wildfire response to prescribed burning.  The forest only has one prescribed burn planned for today, and it will be about five miles east of where the Barn Log fire occurred.
