In an effort to serve people living or working in Houston, as well as visitors, the Houston Police Department has made significant changes and improvements under the watch of Chief Tim Ceplina.

Perhaps the most significant is the addition of manpower, as the agency’s roster expanded from six to eight full time officers, including a School Resource Officer (SRO) in a partnership with Houston Schools.

“The additional manpower has been needed for several years and allows for better shift coverage for our community,” Ceplina said. “This makes it safer for our citizens and the officers. The SRO position has been a great success for the department and the school. With this addition, we have already begun to establish a rapport with the students and staff. We appreciate the support this community has given us.”

Other recent changes and improvements included a significant remodel of the police station at city hall, the addition of two new Ford Explorer patrol vehicles and rocker panel emergency lights to all vehicles in the fleet. All patrol vehicles are now equipped with state of the art radar gear.
