Houston is the only town in Texas County to have a Walmart Supercenter.
Walmart came to Houston in 1977 and opened the Supercenter at its current location on Sam Houston Boulevard in 2002. The store is one of Houston’s largest employers, with about 150 employees, or “associates.”
The store went through a significant remodel in 2019. Several aspects were included in the project, including upgrading flooring and fixtures, updating interior and exterior paint schemes, expansion of the self-checkout area, the addition of a 15-foot tall “tower” that allows customers to pick up items ordered online on their own and more.
