Light aircraft have a place to come and go locally at Houston Memorial Airport.

The facility opened in February 1945 and is available for public use. It has a runway measuring 3,500 feet long and 60 feet wide, and is equipped with 13 new hangar bays and more than 20 total that are rented from the City of Houston by area residents and frequent visitors.

Pilots can fuel up their planes via an on-site pump that accepts credit cards, and a pilots’ lounge is also available. According to Airnav.com, Houston’s airport averages 91 aircraft operations per week.

At an elevation of 1,195 feet, the runway is lined with medium intensity identification lighting that activates from dusk to dawn. Public bus service is available from about 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
