The following are excerpts from reports generated by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department:
•A woman (of unreported age) called the TCSD office on Oct. 16 to report that several items had been stolen from her Roby Road residence at Roby while she was incarcerated in the county jail.
An investigating deputy contacted the woman who had been taking care of the residence while the resident was jailed, and she said the report that things were missing was false. The caretaker and the officer went to the residence and the caretaker showed the former inmate where several of the alleged missing items were located.
The resident was advised to complete a statement form and provide a full list of missing items. She reportedly hasn’t followed through.
•A 41-year-old Houston woman reported on Oct. 19 that a Hi-Point .40-caliber pistol valued at $160 had been swiped from her Grandview Road residence. The woman told an investigating officer that a 45-year-old Houston man was the last person she knew to be in possession of the gun.
•A 37-year-old Licking woman reported on Oct. 18 that her 43-year-old husband had hit her in the face at her Highway C residence.
The woman told an investigating officer the man had run into adjacent woods, but the officer was unable to locate him. The woman reportedly stated she didn’t want to pursue charges and had actually hit her husband first.
•An employee of Sherrill Township reported on Oct. 11 that someone had cut the filler tube to the gas tank of a truck while it was parked at the township shed and stolen about $50 worth of fuel from it. There are no suspects.
•A 79-year-old Raymondville man reported on Oct. 18 that a 1997 Dodge pickup valued at $1,500 had been stolen from his Chick Johnston Road residence.
The man later told an investigating officer that he had loaned the truck to his stepdaughter and she had failed to return it. The man reportedly called back on Oct. 19 and stated the truck had been returned.
•A man and woman reported on Oct. 14 that a Diamondback AR-15 rifle valued at $1,000 and several other items had been swiped from a gunsafe inside their Highway AZ residence. Investigation is ongoing.
•A deputy on Oct. 3 investigated a report that 3-year-old girl had been hit in the head with a paddle at a Nodaway Drive residence at Plato, causing a blood vessel in an eye to burst.
Family members reportedly told the investigators that the paddle had been broken on a float trip and the child hadn’t been struck with it. They said they had taken the girl to a doctor and been told the blood vessel had likely broken from a sneeze or cough.
The child was reportedly asked what happened and said her dad had broken the paddle in the water.
•A 66-year-old Willow Springs woman reported on Oct. 5 that an ATV, motorcycle and trailer were at her Freedom Road residence that didn’t belong there, and she suspected they were stolen. Investigating deputies did a computer check on all three items and none were reported stolen.
•A 69-year-old St. Louis man reported on Oct. 5 that numerous items with a total value of $665 had been swiped from a hunting cabin he owns on Turley Road at Plato. Investigation is ongoing.
