Members of the Texas County Commission received an update June 20 from its maintenance supervisor after a lightning strike that caused issues at the Texas County Justice Center.

Lee Smith discussed problems with a generator, an update on the HVAC system and a project that involves improving energy efficiency.

In other matters, members:

—Visited with former Presiding Commissioner Donald Shelhammer concerning a recommendation for a vacant emergency preparedness job.

—Heard from Prosecutor Attorney Parke Stevens discuss an inmate’s correspondence with him and highlighted several issues, according to the minutes.

—Heard from Tammy Cantrell, collector-treasurer, on several operational questions she wanted input on. Her office and the county clerk’s office will work on a paperwork project to improve customer service related to property issues. A sale of property due to delinquent taxes is slated for Aug. 27. There were 126 properties on the list on the day of her report.

—Received an update from Presiding Commissioner Fred Stenger related to his attendance at a recent South Central Council of Governments meeting. The next gathering is Aug. 21.

—Talked to its insurance representative related to a claim.

—Heard George Sholtz, who has two lawsuits against the county, offer to settle the claim for $1 if the county would repair a culvert on Hamilton Creek Road — the site of a fatal accident involving his son-in-law.
