Just before 5 p.m. Thursday, the Texas County Commission released this statement:
July 18, 2018, was a dark day for Texas County. Our elected sheriff, James Sigman, was arrested and charged with various felonies and misdemeanor charges. Subsequently, Texas County Marie Lasater, by statute became the acting temporary administrative sheriff. The commission has been working with Marie and will assist in her efforts.
Our neighboring law enforcement agencies as well as the Missouri State Highway Patrol have pledged to assist our local officers with law enforcement activities. We want to assure our local citizens that steps have been taken to continue law enforcement throughout our county.
The process is ever changing and additional information will be released as it becomes available. We will continue working with authorities to make any changes as needed as quickly and efficiently as possible.
We wish to thank all our law enforcement neighbors that have pledged their support during this difficult time. If the sheriff’s office is needed they can be reached at 417-967-4165 or dial 911.
