A Willow Springs man faces additional charges filed by the Texas County prosecutor.

An area man who was arrested by Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper for having multiple active warrants now faces several additional charges – including two felonies.

Jody E. Spanton, 37, of 1007 Highway 137 at Willow Springs, was arrested by a trooper at about 11:30 p.m. Feb. 28 at a house on Cedar Bluff Avenue in Cabool for having an active Wright County felony warrant and a Howell County misdemeanor warrant.

The trooper wrote in a report that occupants of the home where Spanton was arrested included his girlfriend, her two children and her mother.

The trooper stated that during his investigation, marijuana was found in a plastic bag inside one of Spanton’s socks, and a .22 -caliber rifle and a pill bottle containing more pot were found in his Dodge Caravan parked outside the house.

Spanton is reportedly already a convicted felon, so possession of the rifle is another felony.

The trooper issued Spanton citations for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and on May 7 he was charged by Texas County Prosecuting Attorney Parke Stevens Jr. with felonies of stealing a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm, and two counts of misdemeanor second-degree endangering the welfare of a child. He was taken to the Texas County Jail and is held on $100,000 bond.
