Members of the Houston City Council received an update on employment matters and will seek an ordinance to rezone property on South U.S. 63.
The discussion came Monday during a meeting at City Hall.
The council learned that Harley Coulter is the new supervisor of the water and sewer department, where he already works. A committee conducted interviews.
Applications are being sought for a street and public grounds slot created with the retirement of Dale Adey. In other matters, members:
• Gave approval for the Tweed-Lynch Historical Preservation Society to make upgrades to the historic home on Airport Drive and seek grants. The house is believed to be the oldest standing Civil War-era structure in the county.
• Will seek an ordinance to rezone property southeast of Sonic as highway business district from residential. A hearing was held before the meeting. There was no opposition. The town’s planning and zoning commission earlier gave its blessing.
• Declared Nov. 24 as a city holiday.
• Heard a new gas pump with PIN system is under consideration at Houston Memorial Airport.
• Learned that a new budget report on finances will be distributed monthly by city administrator Tona Bowen. Bowen reported that revenue is down but is higher than budgeted.
