The deer season opened with a record-setting first three days. Almost 1,200 deer were tagged with 575 on Sunday, the third day. At Roby, Jess Wallace reported unknown hunters had shot and killed eight large goats.

The Tigers lost their opening basketball game to Hartville, 78-71.

Mary Hampton and Zora Miles were hostesses to the Sunshine Club.

An out-of-state man was deer hunting on the Bill Norris farm and killed a wolf.

Norris was happy, and said the wolf was probably the one that had been killing his turkeys.

Don Burch was the first hunter to check in a deer on opening day.

Marvin Sileven shot a bobcat on his Raymondville farm that measured 52 1/2 inches in length.
