Betty Twinn was named Miss Merrie Christmas. Her attendants, who joined her in the Christmas Parade, were Mary Stottlemyre, Miss Talent; Runners-up Ann Holt, Sara Hutcheson and Lugene Rust; and Dee An Evilsizer, Miss Congeniality.

Authorities said an unidentified man wrote a no-account check to purchase cattle from a Texas County farmer in the amount of $1,800.

The cattle were sold at the East St. Louis Stockyards.

LeRoy Holder was appointed to the city council to fill the vacancy created when Dewain Adkison moved to Raymondville. Holder, appointed by Mayor Kenneth B. Ross, will represent Ward I.

Edward Brown is the new resource project forester assigned to Houston by the Missouri Conservation Commission.

Houston defeated Willow Springs, 69-51.

Willis Willson, president of the business and professional women’s club, thanked the public for cooperation in making the Christmas parade a success.

Six Texas Countians have returned from the national NFO Convention in Louisville. They are Mr. and Mrs. Hermann Potterbaum, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Tate, Bill Overholser and Frank Rice.
