More than 80 organizations throughout Missouri are urging Congress to fund the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), which expired Sept 30. The program provides health insurance for approximately 80,000 Missouri children.
“Unless Congress acts soon, state administrators will have to deliver disenrollment notices to families informing them that their children will not receive coverage next year,” said Brian Schmidt, executive director of the Missouri Children’s Leadership Council.
“We’re asking Missouri’s congressional delegation to support funding for the program and give families peace of mind about their children’s health coverage.
” The Missouri Children’s Leadership Council is a statewide coalition of organizations and individuals working together to further the well-being of children through advocacy for policies that support the health, education, safety and development of children and families, especially those who are at risk because of poverty, abuse, neglect, racial inequities or other risk factors. The vision of the organization is that all Missouri children have the opportunity to be healthy, happy and successful.
