Route 63 Car Club hosted a cruise-in Sunday, Sept. 17, at the First Baptist Church in Houston. One local resident who brought his classic car to the show was Jerome Pfister of Houston. The cruise-in coincided with the church’s Pioneer Day, where many of the First Baptist Church members dressed in early pioneer attire.

David and Wendy Phipps of Houston attended the 80th birthday celebration for David’s mother, Louella, Saturday, Sept. 30, at St. Louis. Many gifts and memories were exchanged and dinner was enjoyed at Charlie Gitto’s Restaurant in Chesterfield. Also attending were Louella’s daughters, Liz and Angie, of California and Marsha of Kansas City.

JOKE OF THE WEEK

Question: How do you fix a broken pumpkin?

Answer: With a pumpkin patch.

RECIPE OF THE WEEK

Maple-Almond Granola

Ingredients:

• 4 1/2 cups rolled oats

• 3/4 cup raw, shelled sunflower seeds

• 1 1/2 cups coarsely chopped raw almonds

• 2 tablespoons cinnamon

• 1 1/4 cups pure maple syrup

• 1/3 cup canola oil

• 1 cup raisins

Directions:

Position a rack in the center of the oven and heat to 325°F. Place the dry ingredients in a large bowl and stir to combine. Add the maple syrup and oil and stir until all dry ingredients are moistened. Line a rimmed 17x12x1-inch baking sheet with parchment paper and spread the granola on the paper. Set on the middle oven rack. Bake until the granola begins to brown, about 25 minutes. Stir with a flat spatula and continue to cook until the granola is light golden brown, dry and fragrant, 15 to 20 minutes more. Stir again; watch during the final minutes so it doesn’t burn. Place the baking sheet on a cooling rack. Add the raisins, stir and let cool.
