Persons wanting to learn about joining the Daughters of the American Revolution are invited to a 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, meeting at the Pizza Inn meeting room at Salem.
Charlene Turner, Jerome, is the current regent of the Noah Coleman chapter DAR. She will tell about the DAR and the work it does in the community.
The Daughters of the American Revolution is a linage society, where members must prove all their descendants back to that patriot that fought in the 1700s to earn the country’s independence from England. This period is at least eight generations back. The organization’s three pillars are historic preservation, education and patriotism.
Linda Mondy, Licking, will join Turner in the presentation. She is the registrar for the Noah Coleman chapter of NDAR. She is the contact person for ladies wanting to join.
She reviews their paperwork to see if they have what is needed to become a member. She will detail how to prove linage to a patriot. She will discuss the steps needed to join.
The local chapter meets 11:30 a.m. the third Saturday of each month at Sybil’s Restaurant in St. James for lunch. Visitors are always welcome. The Daughters of the American Revolution have members in several counties in the area. Janet Bowles, Lake Spring, a DAR Member, will serve as the host for the Dent County Historical Society that is sponsoring the meeting.
For more information, call Dent County Historical Society President Deloris Gray Wood at 573-729-2545.
