• Houston Mayor Don Tottingham’s annual prayer breakfast is 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Houston Storm Shelter. Several volunteers will be honored.

An indoor yard sale runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the community building at the chamber fairgrounds on North U.S. 63.

A truck pull is 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at the chamber fairgrounds.

Cornhole and horseshoe tournaments are Saturday, Oct. 21, at the chamber fairgrounds.

• The National Weather Service in Springfield reports that September was the ninth driest on record and the driest ever at Rolla.

• Congratulations to all our Herald staff, whose hard work won 20 awards in Saturday’s Missouri Better Newspaper Contest. Their commitment and excellence were recognized by a panel of out-of-state judges and announced during a meeting of the Missouri Press Association in Springfield.

• The City of Houston announced municipal court is moving to two days, beginning Oct. 16-17. The first day will be case management and on the second day will be to hear cases.
