• Texas County Memorial Hospital is offering a free diabetes class to the public this month. Curriculum for Diabetes Academy is 6-7 p.m. inside the Jayson Gentry Community Safe Room on the hospital campus.

• The HHS band competes in the Francis Howell Viking Invitational in St. Charles.
• The South Central Cattlemen’s Fall Cattle Drive is Oct. 27, at the West Plains Civic Center. Cost is $15 or $20 at the door. Registration and a light breakfast begins at 8 a.m., followed by the welcome at 9 a.m.

• HHS Class of ’57 gettogether will meet at 11:45 a.m. at The Frying Pan in Houston.

• The annual Downtown Trick or Treat event in Houston is 6-8 p.m. Tables with treats will line Grand Avenue. Bounce houses and games will be next to the Lone Star Plaza.

• The “Dresses for Dreams: Girl Empowerment 5K” begins at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 4 at the Cabool Fairgrounds on Canady Lane. Packet pickup time starts at 9:30 a.m.
• The 11th annual Chili Cook Off is 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce Fairgrounds. The fundraiser assists Hospice of Care with critical resources to help care for terminally ill patients and their families. Sample chili from 15 different cook off teams and enjoy live entertainment. There will also be a live auction and raffle winners will be announced including the winner of a new Kawasaki Mule ATV. Brandon Beck, KY3 weather personality, is the emcee.
