Drive 4UR School

The seventh annual Drive 4UR School fundraising event to benefit Houston Schools is set for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday (today) at Romines Motor Co. in Houston.

For every test drive of a Ford vehicle during the event, Ford Motor Co. will donate $20 to the cause, up to $6,000. Superintendent Dr. Allen Moss said funds raised this year will go toward the purchase of new doors for high school and middle school classrooms.

“In our intruder training, one of the things the trainers stressed was having more secure doors,” Moss said, “so we’ll be addressing that with solid core doors that have small windows.”

In the past six similar events, Romines has raised more than $34,000. Last year the money helped purchase white boards and projectors for every Houston High School classroom, and in previous years has gone toward buying e-readers for the high school library, installing air conditioning in Hiett Gymnasium, expanding the security system, building the Tiger Pride Commons Area and purchasing audio-visual systems for the library media center.

“We would like all the support we can get because we this is such a great cause,” said Romines co-owner Don Romines. “Supporting our community is the No. 1 goal of Ford and Lincoln, and the school is the foundation of the community.”
