The Houston volleyball team had a strong second set against a team that played in the state semifinals in 2016. But coach Loran Richardson isn’t satisfied.
“I don’t want us to settle for just being OK and just playing good,” Richardson said following her team’s 25-11, 25-20 defeat Monday to Eminence. “We need to push for being better because I know we can do it.”
The Lady Tigers played with –– and even outplayed –– Eminence to a 17-15 advantage in the second set. But a 10-3 run to close the match led to Houston’s seventh straight defeat.
“We woke up and started playing in the second set,” Richardson said. “However, we still just make too many errors and get inside our own heads.”
Brooke McCown led HHS (3-13) with five kills. Tara Stanton had two blocks.
Melody Buse led the team with nine digs. Alexis Choate had five assists.
Last Thursday, the Lady Tigers had a season-high 59 team digs in a 25-23, 25-23 defeat at Cabool.
Buse had a season-best 21 digs. Sevanna Rowland added 12 and Chloe Hunninghake had 10.
Two days earlier, Choate had three aces and Janae Huff handed out four assists in a 25-15, 25-19 loss at Liberty.
HHS is 0-2 in the South Central Association.
JUNIOR VARSITY: The HHS JV volleyball team won its pool before finishing fourth Saturday at the Bourbon Tournament.
The Lady Tigers defeated Plato and split with Bourbon to win their pool. They then lost to Cuba and Bourbon in bracket play.
Baylee Weaver led the team with seven kills in the tournament. Lexie Spratt had a team-best 12 aces.
