Houston sophomore Janae Huff hits the ball past a pair of Willow Springs defenders Thursday night inside Hiett Gymnasium.

Although it was another conference loss, Houston volleyball coach Loran Richardson said this is one she can live with.

Richardson said she was proud of her team’s effort Thursday night in a 25-17, 25-21 defeat to Willow Springs inside Hiett Gymnasium.

“I thought we played really strong,” Richardson said. “We were going after balls, communicating and giving 100 percent effort. Sometimes you play well and things just don’t go your way on the scoreboard. That’s what happened to us last night.

“I was proud of the girls and their effort. If we had played like that against Ava and some of our other games, we probably would have won. We’ve got to play like that every single night.”

Kennedy Campbell led HHS (3-15, 0-4 South Central Association) with seven kills. Tara Stanton had four.

Janae Huff and Alexis Choate had nine assists apiece. Melody Buse had a team-best 25 digs and Sevanna Rowland added 16.

JUNIOR VARSITY: The JV Lady Tigers rallied from an 18-11 third-set deficit to beat Willow Springs 25-18, 18-25, 26-24 Thursday night.

Houston had 21 kills and 12 aces as a team.
