The Houston softball team again built an early lead and lost it. Except this time, they got it back.
Taylor Chipps’ fourth-inning RBI double broke a 6-all tie and Madison Lawson added a run-scoring groundout in the sixth as HHS beat Laquey 8-6 Thursday afternoon on Carter Field.
HHS (5-3) had a 6-0 lead after two innings, only to see Laquey score six times in a sloppy fourth inning to pull even. It appeared to be a replay of the previous two games when the Lady Tigers had 4-0 advantages only to lose both games.
But Houston immediately regained the advantage as Kaitlyn Root singled and scored on Chipps’ double in the bottom of the fourth to pull back ahead.
Lawson drove in three runs to lead the HHS offense. Lawson, Root and Chipps had two hits apiece. Carly Crawford scored three times.
Emily Roberts struck out two batters and walked four in the complete-game victory.
