Houston junior Baylee Weaver is crowned 2017 HHS homecoming queen by reigning queen Taylor Chipps on Friday evening.

Three days of Houston High School and Houston Alumni Association activities concluded Sunday with a Houston Lions Club fish fry.

The event followed a homecoming parade Friday, the coronation of Baylee Weaver at homecoming festivities later that evening and annual Houston Alumni Association activities that included a Saturday breakfast at the Houston Senior Center and mixer in the afternoon. Some high school classes also choose to hold reunions.

An added fare this year was a Houston Area Chamber of Commerce Pumpkin Festival that included a car show, food and other entertainment around the Lone Star Plaza and Grand Avenue. Nearby the Houston Rural Fire Department showed equipment, held its fourth annual poker run and other activities. It also hosted an Air Evac helicopter that landed and was on display.

Romines Motor Co. launched its seventh annual Drive 4UR School to benefit the district. Over the years, much-needed school equipment has been funded. For every test drive of a Ford vehicle during the event, Ford Motor Co. donated $20 to the cause, up to $6,000. Superintendent Dr. Allen Moss said funds raised this year will go toward the purchase of new doors for high school and middle school classrooms. “In our intruder training, one of the things the trainers stressed was having more secure doors,” Moss said, “so we’ll be addressing that with solid core doors that have small windows.” In the past six similar events, Romines has raised more than $34,000.

Saturday evening saw the annual Miss Texas County Pageant at the community building at the fairgrounds.

Sunday’s fish fry was at the community building at the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce Fairgrounds on North U.S. 63 in Houston. Proceeds benefit the various Lions programs, including eyesight efforts to help those with needs.
