After 30 years on the same location, Mr. and Mrs. Thurman Harris sold their cafe on Grand Avenue to Mr. and Mrs. Russ Spurgeon. Harris estimated that he had sold 1.7 million hamburgers during that span including several times at the Old Settlers Reunion, where he operated an eating concession.

Mike Duff, son of Mr. and Bill Duff, left for England where he will study as a Rhodes Scholar.

Earl Peabody of Elk Creek won the granddad golf tournament at the Houston Country Club.

Mrs. John Cobb hosted a dinner party at the Piney Inn for Lt. Col. and Mrs. Earl Crow who are leaving for a three-year assignment in Germany with the U.S. Air Force.
