Firefighters 'Fill the Boot' for MDA

Houston firefighter Jeremy Werner accepts a donation from a motorist last Friday afternoon during the annual Fill the Boot fundraising campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. With the big Pierce Quantum ladder truck parked nearby with an American flag draped over the highway, local firefighters collected cash from motorists from 1-6 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 63 and Holder Avenue. City of Houston Fire Department Chief Joey Moore said the local effort surpassed the $4,000 mark for the third straight year, this time raising $4,135. Firefighters across the country have been participating in Fill the Boot since 1954.

“By participating in the Fill The Boot campaign we are supporting families in our community in their fight against muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases,” Moore said. “I have family members that have been affected by muscular dystrophy so this endeavor is personal to me.”
