An Ava man sustained serious injuries in an accident Monday morning about seven miles south of Houston, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

Sgt. Dale Pounds said a 2000 Dodge Ram pickup driven by John G. Swainston, 56, ran off the roadway and struck a tree.
A passenger, Joshua D. Swainston, 37, who was not wearing a seat belt, was taken to Texas County Memorial Hospital. John Swainston was not injured. He was wearing a seat belt.
The truck was totaled.
