Vandals smashed the Roby Fire Department mascot, Spot, last Saturday night.

The concrete mascot known as “Spot” sat outside the Roby Fire Department Station 2 in Evening Shade for about 10 years before it was smashed by vandals last Saturday night.

Roby firefighters’ children had recently given Spot a new paint job before the 10-year-old mascot was smashed last weekend.

Spot was recently repainted by some of the department’s firefighters’ children.

“This is a somewhat of a significant loss for us,” said Roby Fire Chief Keith Follins. “Spot was placed at Station 2 by a former firefighter and represents part of our history and we cannot afford to replace him. We are hoping that someone may come forward with some information so that we can hold the person or persons accountable.”

A report about the incident was filed Monday with the Texas County Sheriff’s Department. Anyone with information is encouraged to call Roby FD at 417-458-4214 or message the department online on its Facebook page. Submitted photos
