Jack Gene Norris, 78, passed away Thursday, Nov. 24, 2016, following a lengthy illness.

He was born Oct. 4, 1938, in Hartshorn, son of Zolan Chester and Opal Francis Pendland Norris. He and Linda Lee Schuring were married Dec. 19, 1949. She passed away in 2010.

He was owner and operator of a gas station/wrecker service. He was chief of police and a police officer of Dekalb County in Illinois. He was a truck driver when he retired.

After retirement, he and his wife, Linda, built a home on the family property in Hartshorn.

He was an avid fisherman, hunter and loved being outdoors. He attended church in Hartshorn and was baptized.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and three sisters, Betty Steelman, Zola Shoemaker and Kay Ireland.

Survivors include two daughters, Kimberly Patrick of Rochelle, Ill., and Deborah Norris of Rockford, Ill.; eight grandchildren; several great grandchildren; three sisters, Sylvia Emerson, Karen West and Sherry Jennings; a brother, Kent Norris; and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins.

Services are 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, at Bradford Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Leon Michel officiating. Visitation is 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery.
