*Editor’s note: This is one in a series of profiles submitted by local candidates on the Nov. 8 General Election ballot.
Dear friends,
I have visited with many of you at one time or another and wanted you to know that I am asking for your support in the Nov. 8 election. I am running for the position of Texas County commissioner in District 1.
I am a fifth-generation native of Texas County and was raised on a farm. Texas County is where my wife and I raised our children. We have two daughters, two grandchildren and a nephew we consider our son.
I worked for Howard Construction for 15 years and through my time with them I learned the ins and outs of building and maintaining roads and operating heavy equipment and machinery.
I am currently employed by the City of Houston. Throughout my 22 years working for the city, I worked in the public grounds department for several years. I later transferred to the light and power department. These jobs have provided me with the opportunity to learn the inner workings of how the city power works.
I am also a small business owner. I am the owner and operator of McKinney Tree Trimming and Tree Removal that has been in operation for the past 20 years. I know and realize the importance of small businesses in Texas County.
As decision time gets closer I am asking for your support. I believe I can make a difference. There are questions that have surfaced concerning the support and maintenance of township services. Fresh eyes can often see things that may have been overlooked or possibly ignored.
I have read and studied the requirements for commissioners and I can tell you without a doubt that I am qualified to be your commissioner. I believe the most important part of being a county commissioner is working with and for the people of Texas County.
Since you know me personally, you know that my work ethic is strong.
Sincerely, Scott McKinney, Houston
