Four members of the Houston High School baseball team were honored for standout seasons with spots on the all-conference team.
Seniors Nathan Poynter and Kyle Wilson were named second team all-SCA while teammates Stetson Welch and Trevor Motzkus received honorable mention.
Mountain Grove, which won the Class 3 state championship, swept the top honors. D.J. McNew was selected as the SCA player of the year and Derin McGownd was named coach of the year.
Poynter, who played shortstop and also pitched for HHS, ranked third on the team with a .311 batting average. He scored a team-high 20 runs and easily led the Tigers with 15 stolen bases. His 23 hits were second on the team.
Wilson, a left fielder, hit a team-best .418 in 2016 with a .529 on-base percentage. He led Houston with 28 hits and tied for the team lead with 18 RBIs. Wilson was second on the team with 17 runs scored.
Welch, a senior who played third base and right field, logged a team-high 52 2/3 innings on the mound. He accounted for seven of the team’s 12 victories while sporting a 3.72 ERA. He struck out 41 batters and walked 27.
Motzkus, a junior, was a utility player who pitched and played center field and shortstop. He batted .197 with a .275 on-base percentage. He ranked third on the team with eight steals.
