A portion of Walnut Street in Houston was wiped away by floodwaters Sunday afternoon.

About 24 hours after the swelling Brushy Creek significantly damaged Walnut Street in Houston, the portion of the roadway reopened Monday evening to the public.

A strong current following rain Sunday afternoon wiped away large pieces of asphalt and rock below. Members of the Missouri Department of Transportation were investigating the damage shortly after 8 p.m.

By late Monday afternoon, the highway was reopened after repairs.

The damaged section of the roadway was located between Sharp Shooters Gun & Pawn and the Houston Visitors Center.
