The Houston school board made five employment decisions and accepted a resignation during the closed session of Tuesday’s monthly meeting.
Hired for the upcoming school year were: Steve Huffman as middle school science teacher and bus driver; Pat Oakley as special education process coordinator and district testing coordinator; and Delinda Dixon as high school cheerleading sponsor.
The board accepted Janice Maxwell’s resignation as bookkeeper and administrative secretary effective Aug. 31. She is retiring from the district.
Also at the meeting, board members:
- Tabled an agreement with the City of Houston related to its tennis courts. The city is requesting the district pay $600 – an increase of $100 – each time the courts are resurfaced. Dill will make revisions to the document and communicate with the city.
- Granted approval to proposed plans for the next building trades house pending implementation of suggested changes. Updated plans will be presented at the next board meeting
- Set Aug. 11 as the date for hearings related to the tax rate and start of school date.
- Amended the budget for fiscal year 2016 to reflect updated personnel and anticipated capital expenditures.
- Created an extra duty position for responsibilities related to the position of district testing coordinator.
- Heard the next regular board meeting will be held in the new library/media center on campus. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. – one hour later than the normal start time – due to open houses for students and families.
