A program on Personal Energy Transportation is planned Sunday at Houston United Methodist Church.

A program that ships specially designed vehicles across the world will be highlighted Sunday at Houston United Methodist Church.

The church will host Gary Moreau, executive director of Personal Energy Transportation (PET) based in Columbia, which is part of a faith-based, volunteer-powered, worldwide humanitarian organization which seeks to “provide appropriate mobility for all God’s children in need.” The times are at 9 a.m. at Sunday School and 10 a.m. at worship.

Moreau will demonstrate a hand-cranked vehicle that is designed to be used by persons who are unable to use their legs for mobility.  The PET allows them to move about their communities freely and independently.  Many of the recipients are persons who have lost limbs as a result of stepping on land mines.  The organization ships these vehicles around the world.  In 2014, the Missouri group built and shipped 1,408 PETs.

Alice Wells, chair of the missions committee of the church, said that a special offering will be taken during worship, and the church’s goal is to raise enough money to purchase and donate three PETs, at a cost of $250 each.  Interested persons are invited to attend.

At 3 Sunday afternoon, the public is invited to attend a spring concert at the church.  Darin Bradford is a professional concert pianist who has served as pianist for the Houston United Methodist Church for several years.   He has also treated this community to several professional concerts during that time, and his concerts are eagerly anticipated by many music lovers in Houston and the surrounding area.

This will be his farewell concert as he has announced plans to relocate to Las Vegas in June.  The church’s bell choir and chancel choir will also present several selections.
