A Houston High School student has been awarded a scholarship.

A Houston High School is a recipient of a Physical Therapy Specialists Clinic Memorial Scholarship.

Olivia Woolsey is one of eight to receive a $1,000 scholarship from among seniors in Douglas, Howell, Wright, Oregon, Shannon and Texas counties. Recipients were picked by a panel of area residents made up of community leaders, including Ron Reed of Houston.

Jordan Emery of Plato had his scholarship renewed.

The selections were based on leadership qualities, academic accomplishments, grade point average and community service.

The scholarships, which total about $200,000 since their inception in 1999, are given in memory of several area residents.
