Members of the Houston City Council reorganized Monday following an election earlier in the month.
City Clerk Tonya Foster administered oaths to Mayor Don Tottingham, Ward I Alderwoman Mary Barnes, Ward II Alderman Charles “Chalky” Wells and Ward III Alderman David Arthur.
In other matters, members:
—Held a hearing for a grant to assist with the construction of a water well and tower at the Houston Industrial Park off North Industrial Drive. The council also discussed work to gain FAA clearance for the project, which is south of the Houston Memorial Airport.
—Heard Police Chief Jim McNiell present information about the department’s body camera policy. The issue moves to the council’s police and fire committee. The cameras are in use by all policemen.
—OK’d closing a section of Pine Street south of Lone Star Plaza for a carnival in June. David Klotz made the request.
—Learned that Rolla Asphalt won the bid for the city’s annual overlay program. City Administrator Larry Sutton said the firm also will do private and commercial work for property owners this year. Those interested can call Troy Pinkerton at 573-364-3992.
—Approved a long-range plan for community goals and discussed the need for road repairs after several waterline breaks over the winter.
