The Houston girl’s basketball team wiped away a 14-point second-half deficit only to lose in overtime.
Jaydin Ramsey drilled a 3-pointer at the buzzer in regulation to complete the Lady Tigers’ rally Monday night at Ava. But HHS was outscored 8-4 in the extra period and lost 56-52.
It was the first conference loss of the season for Houston (7-5, 1-1 South Central Association). It was the third overtime game of the season for the Lady Tigers, who had won the previous two against Willow Springs and Mansfield.
Junior Sarah Kelley led Houston with 25 points. Kylee Elmore hit four 3-pointers en route to 17 points.
The Lady Tigers led 12-8 after the opening quarter and had a five-point advantage in the second when Ava went on a 13-0 run to close the half.
The Lady Bears led by eight at the half, and their biggest advantage was 14 points. They were still ahead by six entering the fourth.
Ramsey, who turned 16 that morning, drained a triple at the end of regulation to complete Houston’s comeback. It was her lone basket of the game.
JUNIOR VARSITY: Kaitlyn Root scored 12 points and Alyssa Hayes had 11 as the JV Lady Tigers cruised past Ava 45-21 on the road Monday night.
Ahead 11-6 after the opening quarter, Houston extended its advantage to 12 points at the half and 24 entering the fourth.
