Diagnosed flu cases in Texas County continue to mount, the county health department reported.
As the 2014-2015 flu season continues, the Texas County Health Department reported that 41 laboratory-confirmed cases of flu were reported for the week of Jan. 4 and 43 for the week of Jan. 11.
Health department officials said that so far this flu season, 203 confirmed cases of flu have been reported in the county. Last year was a mild year for flu in the area, and only 51 cases were documented during the entire flu season.
The flu season in the U.S. officially runs October through May. Health Department authorities said the number of cases being recorded this season in Texas County is much higher than usual, as the average over the past five seasons is 91.
