Licking’s Landmark Bank on Monday afternoon handed over the deed for the property where the “Memorial For The Fallen” will be built.

The ceremony was originally to be held outdoors on the monument’s site and the project’s contractor Jimmy Swindell was due to start groundwork that day, but plans were changed due to frigid temperatures.

“The start is on hold,” said project organizer Wayne Hackman. “Now we aren’t sure about the timing.”

Other firms involved in the project include Wolford Monument, Wiley Fence and Tots Landscaping. Landmark Bank donated the land.

The Memorial For The Fallen will include area names of area military personnel killed in the line of duty. Hackman said its projected grand opening date is next Memorial Day.

Licking Downtown Inc. is selling engraved granite bricks to go in the horseshoe shaped center of the memorial for $60 apiece, and one more wrought iron bench for a sponsor to purchase for $400. Bricks can be outfitted with three lines, up to 14 letters each.

Hackman said names can still be submitted for the memorial.

“If there is anyone you know of who was killed in the line of duty while serving, please let us know,” he said. “It’s not too late to get their names added on.”

For more information, or to purchasing a brick or sponsor the bench, call Joan Brannam at TJ’s Flowers and Gifts at 573-674-2547.
