A former Piney Township official faces nine felony charges in the theft of funds from the road and bridge district, the Missouri attorney general’s office announced Friday.
Roger L. Martin, 53, of Houston, is charged with one count of theft of more than $25,000 and eight charges of fraudulent use of a credit or debit card. Charges stem from offenses allegedly to have occurred in 2011 and 2012, according to prosecutors. Charges against Martin were dropped in August by a judge, but prosecutors were left with the option of refiling them.
Martin’s latest bond was set at $500,000.
Martin resigned in July 2012 after allegations he used a Shell credit card for personal use. Township officials said the only cards they knew existed were used by employees.
Another former township official, Jackie Cooper, earlier entered a guilty plea and was ordered to repay about $24,720 to Piney Township.
