Texas County Farm Bureau promotion and education chairman Mike Luerssen has been busy lining up presenters for the 10th annual Ag Expo for county fourth and eighth-graders Oct. 7 at the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce Fairgrounds.

“Youngsters these days are sometimes generations away from agriculture and are amazed with the animals and information,” Luerssen said. “Many fourth-graders have never seen the animals up close or learned about the products they use in their everyday life and how they are related to agriculture. The eighth-graders learn about some of the many opportunities for occupations related to agriculture, including various types of farming.

County FFA members act as guides during the event and help with clean up. They also work in a booth explaining to the eighth-graders the fun and advantages of joining FFA in high school.

“Both the students and presenters look forward each year to this gigantic undertaking involving upwards of perhaps 700 individuals,” Luerssen said.

The public is welcome to attend.
