Summersville and Raymondville fire departments were dispatched Monday, March 23, to a report of smoke along Highway 137.

A large grass fire mobilized five Texas County departments to near Raymondville.

Authorities called departments from Houston, Raymondville, Tyrone, Summersville and Licking. 

The Raymondville Fire Department responded to the report at about 4:15 p.m. Friday. 

The blaze is situated at 6595 Highway 137, authorities said.

About 20 minutes later, the Houston Rural Fire Department was called to the scene, which is near Highway 137 and Emmett Kelly Road.

At 4:50 p.m., Tyrone’s department was dispatched. Shortly after 5 p.m. additional personnel were sought to the scene. Law enforcement is directing traffic and advising motorists to be cautious. At 5:15 p.m., the Summersville Fire Department was called for help. At 5:17 p.m., the Licking Fire Department was called. 

Authorities said the fire was under control by 6 p.m.
