The City of Houston has been awarded a grant for firefighting training.

The City of Houston has been awarded a $10,500 grant for firefighting training.

The education will be aimed at five key objectives for firefighter professional qualifications.

Among the topics are: first aid and hazardous materials/weapons of mass destruction. Training also will allow the department to bring it up to new standards for firefighter I and firefighter II objectives. They include incident command systems, skills review, utility emergencies, firefighter safety, fire suppression II, rescue skills, pre-incident survey, vehicle fires and more. 

The award was from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Federal Emergency Management Agency. The city must match $600.
