The Houston baseball team is seeded fifth in a district that features the state’s top-ranked team and three of the region’s best squads.
The Tigers’ postseason begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 17, when they face fourth-seeded Strafford in the opening round of the Class 3 District 10 tournament at Ava High School.
Three of the team’s top Class 3 teams sit atop the district. Top-seeded Springfield Catholic is the No. 1 team in the state. Second-seeded Ava is the lone unbeaten team in southwest Missouri and No. 3 Mountain Grove was ranked fourth in the last state poll. Between them, the top three teams in the district have two combined losses.
Houston’s first-round opponent isn’t bad either. Strafford is 16-5 with two games left in the regular season.
The other first-round games include Ava vs. Willow Springs at noon and Mountain Grove faces Liberty at 2 p.m. The semifinals are 4 and 6 p.m. Monday. The championship game is 6 p.m. Tuesday.
