The following reports were generated last week by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department:

•A 54-year-old Raymondville woman came to the TCSD office April 29 to report she had received a fraudulent check in the mail.

The woman produced a check in the amount of $4,350 from the Hudson Terminal Railroad Co., and information stating she was the runner-up in a contest and the funds were for paying “processing fees.” She said she checked with a bank about the account it was supposedly drawn from and found out there was no such account. She said she called the phone number on the check and when she told a lady on the other end there was no such account, the lady hung up.

•A 30-year-old Bucyrus woman reported May 2 that her 36-year-old female cousin, also from Bucyrus, had used a credit card without permission.

An investigating officer made contact with the cousin, who said she had used the card only for authorized purchases and that her former boyfriend might be responsible for the unauthorized ones.

The card owner decided not to pursue charges.

•A Mountain Grove woman on April 25 reported a prowler at her Business U.S. 60 residence.

The woman showed an investigating officer fishing line in a tree. The officer observed the line, but no footprints in the mud in the area.

The officer advised the woman the line might have blown from the neighbor’s property and lodged in the tree.

•A Houston woman on April 27 reported trash dumped on her Piney Drive property.

An investigating officer did not observe trash at the location. The woman told the officer she had already cleaned it up. She was advised to leave the trash there if the same thing happened again so a deputy could look through it for evidence of who dumped it.

•A Summersville man called on April 26 to report that a vehicle had been swiped from his Harlow Road residence. The man told an investigating officer the alleged theft was a misunderstanding and his grandson had the vehicle.

•A deputy was dispatched at about 11 a.m. May 1  regarding a report of trash dumped at a location on Welch Road. The officer observed the trash, but found nothing to indicate who had discarded it.

•On May 1, an Edgar Springs man came to the TCSD office to report that an 18-year-old male from Licking might commit an act of violence toward his church’s congregation.

The man told an investigating officer he hadn’t actually heard the suspect state his intentions, but heard about it from another member of the church. The officer made contact with the suspect at his Iron Mine Road residence, and he stated he had no intention of causing alarm or doing any harm.

He also said he would no longer be attending the church.

•A 56-year-old Licking woman reported April 30 that her Garrison Drive residence had been broken into and three rings with a total value of $2,350 had been stolen.

An investigating officer determined the jewelry had been swiped by two Licking boys, ages 16 and 14. The rings were recovered and returned to the woman, who elected not to pursue charges.

•A 50-year-old Houston woman reported April 29 that a .38-caliber handgun had been swiped from her Strawberry Road residence.

The woman named her fiance’s 33-year-old nephew as a possible suspect.

•An 88-year-old Cabool woman reported April 30 that 150-feet of 6-foot tall chicken wire had been stolen from her Beeler Road property. There are no suspects.

•A 72-year-old Licking man reported April 29 that a 2003 Dodge pickup had been stolen from his Highway 32 residence.

An investigating officer determined the truck had been swiped by a 21-year-old Licking man. The vehicle’s owner stated three men had come to his home and told him the suspect had wrecked and it where it could be found.

An officer located the suspect near the wrecked truck and arrested him and took him to the Texas County Jail. A probable cause statement was sent to the county prosecutor seeking formal charges against him.
