The Houston High School baseball team faces one of the top teams in Class 3 in today’s district semifinals.
The Tigers, who edged Mountain Grove 3-2 in Saturday’s opener, play top-seeded Springfield Catholic (18-3) at 4:30 p.m. today.
In Monday’s other semifinal, second-seeded Strafford faces No. 3 Ava. The district championship game is 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Houston squeaked into the semis by scoring three times in the bottom of the seventh inning against Mountain Grove. It was the third time the Tigers beat the Panthers this season. All were by a single run and two were walk-off wins.
In Saturday’s other first-round games, Strafford blanked Willow Springs 9-0 and Ava topped Liberty 10-7.
