The following reports were generated last week by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department.
• A man called just after noon May 18 to report that his girlfriend was causing a problem at his Roby Road residence and wouldn’t leave. An investigating officer reported that when he arrived at the location, the woman was gone.
• A man called at about 5:45 p.m. May 19 to report that another man was shooting into a pond near his Country Aire Lane trailer home at Cabool. The shooter told an investigating officer had he shot and killed two snakes that had chased his grandchildren, and that the landlord had given him permission to do so.
• An officer reported that at about 1 p.m. May 19 he had assisted an ambulance crew tending to a man who had overdosed on drugs at the Raymondville Village Hall. The victim was taken to Texas County Memorial Hospital.
• A woman called at about 2:40 a.m. May 14 to report a prowler near her Northview Lane trailer home at Houston. An investigating officer stated that he located a neighbor who was going for a walk.
• An officer was dispatched at about 4:20 a.m. May 19 to a Ruth Drive residence at Licking after a 53-year-old woman who lives there reported that someone had thrown a rock through a window. The woman told the officer she heard a loud truck leave the scene just after the incident, and named a 36-year-old Licking man who owns the truck as a suspect.
The officer later contacted the suspect, who denied involvement. Damage to the window and a wooden blind was estimated at $1,000.
• An officer was dispatched at about 5:20 p.m. May 18 to a Sunrise Drive residence at Cabool after a 26-year-old woman who lives there reported that her 27-year-old brother had come to her home and damaged property. The woman said her brother had been upset after arguing with someone else, and had broken a vase and thrown a brick through a glass patio table valued at $120.
• An officer was dispatched at about 2:30 a.m. May 17 after a man reported that his neighbors were shooting fireworks at his Highway AW residence at Roby.
• A man called at about 1:30 p.m. May 12 and requested that a deputy come to a U.S. 63 residence and speak to a lady he provides care to and advise her that nobody is digging holes in her yard and hiding gold. After the officer spoke with the woman and showed her evidence that dogs had likely done the digging, she reportedly then believed her dogs were to blame.
• On May 12 at about 7:30 p.m., a 44-year-old man reported a theft had occurred at his Boster Road residence.
The man told an investigating officer he had been attending a graduation party at a neighbor’s home and had noticed a white Ford truck traveling on Boster Road. He stated that a short time later he saw the same vehicle traveling the other direction, this time with his Craftsman riding lawn mower in its bed.
The man said he followed the truck until it wrecked on Highway 137 about a mile south of Highway 17. The officer stated he made contact with three suspects who had been in the truck, and after an investigation and interviews with all three, had determined that a 35-year-old Houston woman had orchestrated the theft.
The mower, valued at $500, and a Jonsered chainsaw valued at $100 that had also been swiped, were returned to the victim.
A probable cause statement was sent to the county prosecuting attorney seeking charges against the woman of second-degree burglary and stealing over $500. She was held at the Texas County Jail pending formal charges.
• A woman called May 14 just after midnight to report a peace disturbance at a residence on Sylvia Drive. An investigating officer determined two men and a woman had been arguing over a card game.
• An officer responded at about 10 a.m. May 14 to a report of a domestic dispute at a Ridge Road residence at Houston. The officer determined that two women had been arguing over items to be placed in a yard sale.
• A 47-year-old Raymondville man reported that he had about one year ago loaned two riding lawnmowers with a total value of $1,700 to his 51-year-old brother, and the brother was refusing to return them to his Farrell Drive residence.
