The following are matters dealt with last week by the sheriff’s department:

Jan. 4

––An officer reported that on Dec. 29 he had investigated a report of an incident at a Northview Lane trailer park in Houston in which a juvenile girl was allegedly bitten by a dog.

As a result of the investigation, Forrest Maxey, 71, of 8205 Northview Lane, Lot 22, was issued a citation for animal abuse/neglect – failure to maintain control of an animal (persistent offender).

––An officer reported that on Dec. 30 he had investigated a report of a burglary at a Kirkman Road residence at Raymondville. The officer stated that a 46-year-old man who lives there said that several items related to hunting and fishing had been swiped with a total value of $1,475, including a compound bow worth $1,000.

The man named his daughter and her boyfriend as suspects. The daughter was to be contacted for questioning.

––An officer investigated a report of utility theft at a Santa Anna Road residence at Falcon.

Two employees of an electric company showed the officer a meter case rigged with jumper cables to bypass the meter.

The officer made contact with a 47-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman living there and the electric company was to be contacted regarding possible pursuit of charges.

Jan. 5

––Matthew Moda, 31, of 12353 Highway 32 at Roby, was issued a citation for stealing less than $500 after allegedly pumping $70 worth of gas at an Evening Shade gas station and then driving off without paying for it.

Jan. 7

––An officer reported that on Jan. 5 he had been dispatched to a Bean Creek Drive residence at Licking regarding a reported burglary.

The officer stated that a 94-year-old man who lives there told him that while his wife was sitting in the living room, someone came in behind her and stole three cameras off the kitchen table. The man told the officer he suspected a former neighbor because he had found tire tracks that matched that person’s vehicle.

The officer was unable to find any tracks that didn’t match the homeowner’s vehicle.
