This area’s new state senator has received his committee assignments.
Sen. Mike Cunningham, R-Rogersville, will serve as vice chair of the Senate Financial and Governmental Organizations and Elections Committee, which handles legislation related to banks, state government and elections.
It works on legislation relating to departments, boards and commissions of state government, the internal operation of any state agency and the affect of federal legislation upon any state agency. Legislation affecting elections is also commonly referred to the committee.
Cunningham also was appointed to serve on the Commerce, Consumer Protection, Energy and the Environment Committee, the Governmental Accountability and Fiscal Oversight Committee and the Veterans’ Affairs and Health Committee.
The senator was sworn in last week.
